Relieve Stress with Self Expression

Self expression is so important to our psychological health. Whether you express yourself verbally or non-verbally is a matter of preference but being able to share with someone how you feel and to receive the gift of being listened to is not to be under-estimated.

Verbal self expression activities in the form of talking with friends or family, or in more structured forms such as counselling, psychotherapy or working with a coach or mentor can be very supportive.

If you live in Australia the free Lifeline counseling service is manned by trained volunteers 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. You can call 13 11 14 and talk to them for any reason at all.

Don't forget to experiment with non-verbal forms of self expression too, activities such as creating art, photography or writing and/or journaling. You could learn to play a musical instrument or for something less structured you could join a drumming group. Experiment with physical expression: body painting or dance. Some people like to adorn themselves with jewellery, or body art such as henna or even tattoo.

If you are a food-lover, you are probably already experimenting with creating your own recipes and delighting in the appreciation of those tasting your creations. How about entering a competition to show-case your abilities?

Whoever you are, there is an activity that is perfect for you to express yourself, something that you can share with others that will bring joy and connection. What is it for you?
